Buenos Dias! On the 14th we split in to three groups and each group participated in different activities. Here are the students' blog posts below!
Matthew y Alexandra - Zip-line
Hey Everyone! Today started off with a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit. After that we got our bags and separated into three groups. The three groups were zip-lining, creek hiking, and horseback riding. On the zip-line, we went on six zip-lines deep into the Costa Rican jungle. We had a very cool tour guide named Eduardo. On one of the lines we traveled up to the speed of 50MPH. Then we had lunch! For lunch we had cheese and bean empanadas with salad and veggies. Then we picked up the group that went horseback riding and went to Puerto Jimenez to get some delicious ice cream from the supermarket. After that we met the other groups at the lodge and spent the rest of the day swimming and playing games. We are about to have BBQ chicken and potatoes. It smells amazing! All is good here! We are having an absolute ball!! Peace out!! XOXO M y A
PS Feliz Dia San Valentine <3
Elliot (esta) y CeCe (mama bird) - Creek Hike
Como esta! The bus ride to the creek walk was very bumpy!! It was only about a 20 minute ride. Just as we pulled up we saw sloths!! They were awesome!! We walked for 5 minutes until we got to the creek. Once we arrived at the creek the fresh, clean water was chilly. After a short walk we came to our first stop. It was a waterfall! We all jumped off a bunch of times. Once we were finished, we continued up the creek. After we left we stumbled upon a giant leaf cutter anthill. It was huge!! Around five minutes later Jordan, our guide, heard a poisonous dart frog. It was very cool. The frog was the first of eight frogs found! Captain Morgan said that was a new record! Soon after we were done observing the frogs, we went onto a second waterfall. When new were there we jumped off of the ledge into a very deep pool of water. Thank goodness for Jordan or all of us would have fallen from the ledge countless times. Once we were done with that, we headed back to a restaurant and had the greatest quesadilla ever!! On our way back we had another bumpy ride to the lodge. We made a bat house when we got to the lodge and drank from coconuts. I hope you are all enjoying the snow at home! XOXO CeCe and Elliot
Claire E y Caroline - Horseback Riding
Hola! Today Mr Earls' and Mrs Mussman's group went horseback riding. We started out with getting on the bus at 8AM. The ride to the ranch was bumpy but fun! Once we got there we picked out our horses and went over the rules. We went on a wooded path at first and walked through some creeks. We finally got to the end and there was a beautiful view. We went back down the trail and had a wonderful lunch! We had rice with iguana, French fries, chips, and salad. We played soccer, swam in the pool, and hung in hammocks. We went into the town and got some ice cream. We had a wonderful day! Hasta Luego!
I can't believe how much you guys have done already!! It's snowy and really foggy here but it should be 60 by Friday! It sounds like everyone is have n awesome time. T things at home are going well. Lots of workers in the house today and getting closer to the end. By the time you get to see it, the house will look very different than when you left. Daisy and Nina miss you, but not as much as I do. Dad had to coach lacrosse practice tonight even though there is snow on the ground. He doesn't have as much fun coaching when you (and Jack H) aren;t there. Keep trying new adventures. Wear your sunscreen an you bug spray. I can't wait to here every detail. Miss you so much, but trying not to be a crank about it. Love you with my whole heart! Be kind to each other and make good choices!! Love Mom, Dad, Lily and Sam.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace and All,
ReplyDeleteGrace, I'm proud of you going horseback riding for the first time! What was you horse's name? Did anyone have to ride the mule? Maybe Mr. Earls? (Ha ha) Sounds like the creek group saw so many cool things! Last year Mr. Carcieri and I stayed behind at the waterfall to find his son's GoPro at the bottom of the creek pool. It took effort, but we found it! I'm glad to see Jordan is helping Captain Morgan. Please tell him hi! (He's my Facebook friend.) Where's Adonis? To the zip lining group...so fun, right? The weather is terrible here, so we are living vicariously through you guys. Miss Rosemond's friend and roommate could use prayers, hope everyone can include her in their intentions. Thanks!
Grace, we miss you so much but are so happy you are having an amazing time. Drink water!
All my love, Mom
Hey Michael-
ReplyDeleteAs I am reading all the posts I am regretting not chaperoning this year as everyday is amazing in the Osa. Happy to see that no one had to ride the mule this year! Enjoy the sunshine! Peace! Laura
Hola Claire and Padre! It looks like you're both having a ton of fun! It snowed a lot last night, so of course we had to go to Greater's(we missed you)! I hope horseback riding was fun and I can't believe you both ate iguana! Was it good? Well, I hope your trip keeps getting more amazing! Oh,and good job on writing the blog post,Claire and Caroline! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Caroline :)
Thank you so much for the wonderful updates and photos! Looks like some amazing life experiences today!! I have just one question for the Creek group...why was Captain Morgan holding a poisonous frog??? Okay 2 questions, did you really see sloths?? It sounds like there are a lot of bumpy rides down there, and not just on the horses.
ReplyDeleteLiza - Did you practice your starts and turns in the creek pool?? So excited to hear there are foods that you like down there - pancakes and bacon and the most amazing quesadilla ever! You will be sad to know that you missed soup club tonight. Mrs Hutchins made a yummy veggie tortellini soup. (and no beans!) Since it's my week next week, I thought I would push soup night to Tuesday so you will be home for it! ;)
Miss you tons, but I must confess, that I am not missing multiple trips to St X every day or that dag-gone train!! My blood pressure is going up just thinking about it! (Don't tell Dr Hutchins. He would not be happy with rising blood pressure!) This weekend is Regionals. Will be odd working a swim meet that you are not in!
I hope you are taking tons of your own photos. Don't forget sunscreen, especially since you are promoting melanoma awareness on your t-shirt! I didn't see you with a hat on btw!!! :(
Can't wait to hear about each group's experiences with the other adventures that they did not do today.
Gab and Lou are beat from shreddin' the gnar today or I would have them send a quick note. Perhaps tomorrow!?!
Be safe, keep having fun, eat well and get some sleep!!
Mom & Dad
Is it true? I have heard that "Iguana tastes just like chicken".
ReplyDeleteHello, Jerry! I'm not exactly sure which group you were in today. I hope it was ziplining @ 50 miles an hour! WOOT!! I got home from work today & took a 2 hour nap. Obviously, it is too quiet here without you. DANG I miss you. BUT I could not be happier that you are on this fantastic adventure, with such a terrific group. PLEASE don't skimp on bug spray and sunscreen. (Says right on the bottle "Apply liberally".) You have less than a week before you return. Make the most of every single second. I love you very much - - but you knew that.
Mom
Hi everyone and Esta/Perry
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a great trip! Much better than the snow here. But good thing we have a neighbor from Wisconsin who loves to snow blow! I hope you are having a great time on your trip. The waterfall hike sounded like a blast! Bet you can't wait to zip line and ride horseback. Hope you are capturing the adventures on the GoPro. I can't imagine how many of the new foods Elliot you are actually trying. Hopefully all! Enjoy each day, we miss you at home.
Love, Mom
Wow! Looks like fun. Enjoy every moment and keep those posts coming!
ReplyDeleteDear 8th Graders,
ReplyDelete1-D just read your blog and looked at the pictures and they have a couple of questions. Hopefully you have time to answer them.
1. Did any bats move into the new bat house? (Anna)
2. Was the pool at Hacienda Baru cold or warm? (Matthew C.)
3. How big was the waterfall on the creek hike? (Paul)
4. Has it rained there yet? (Evelyn)
We'll keep reading the blog about all your adventures! Matthew S. says "hi!" to his big sister.
Love, 1-D
