Hola!

Hola from the Osa!  For Valentine’s Day we traded candy and made bracelets! We had a sweet dessert made by the best, Jackie.  Today was a very strenuous day but it was awesome!  We woke up and were greater by a few monkeys in the trees above us.  For breakfast we had tortillas with eggs and sausage.  to get the authentic Costa Rica experience we drove an hour to the farm in a cattle bus.  We arrived at the farm and went on a beach hike, about five miles round trip.  There was a beautiful lagoon full of sea urchins and crabs.  The waves were 5-10 feet high!  It was hotter than malarkey.  We were all dripping sweat!  Back at the farm, the owners kindly prepared chicken, beans, rice, salad, and watermelon for us.  We refilled out water bottles, saw squirrel monkeys, and hiked in a primary rainforest for about an hour.  On the hike we saw lots of monkeys, drank medicinal tree sap, and swung from vines.  The farm had the biggest pig we have ever seen and a water buffalo that we got to ride!!  We got back on the bumpy bus and sang the entire “99 bottles of milk on the wall” song and many others.  At the lodge we showered and had a burrito bar for dinner.  We then gave some of the donations to Jackie’s girls who were very appreciative.  Lastly, we played a game and went to bed.  Phew! What was a hot, exhausting, amazing, day!! XOXO Jack Mannix, Liza, and Riley

  1. GREETINGS to the inhabitants of the Morgan's Jungle Lodge!

Mrs. Andsager, back again - after just checking out ALL of the fabulous photos that Miss Kelly just posted(THANK you)!

It looks like you are ALL having an AMAZING time: swinging from trees, jumping off of cliffs, playing in water falls and zip lining through the forest!
From the looks of the photos it appears you are eating GREAT FOOD at ALL of the finest establishments on the Osa Peninsula (including Jackie's kitchen)!!!
You also appear to be relaxing, after your busy days - in the hammocks and swinging chairs. Maybe you all need naps - because the monkeys are waking you so early each morning???

I LOVED the photos of the squirrel monkeys - they look so cute . . . but I assure you they aren't so nice (up close). As Adaliene knows - I had 2 little monkeys like that when I was young (for a short time). They were pretty mean little guys and caused plenty of HAVOC when they got loose in the neighborhood! STAY AWAY:-(

Back home in Cincinnati - we got a Valentine's snow fall!
Andrew and his posse hit the slope at The Observatory with their snowboards - and then hiking home for FOOD!
Jackson - sorry you missed a pretty mean football game too.

For Valentine's Day we got 5 new pets - but then we ATE THEM for dinner!!! Emerson and Everett LOVED dumping live lobsters in a pot of boiling water! Maybe you can catch a few Halloween crabs and "boil them up" for dinner?

Hopefully - you found the Valentine's treats in your luggage (Adaliene). And by the way . . . those little pink dresses in your luggage weren't for you, they were for Jackie's girl:-)

Make sure to TRY SOMETHING NEW everyday . . . and have SO much fun doing it!!!

    Love you Rosie Tosie,
    Love, Mom

PS: Adaliene - be sure you got my previous post under Pura Vida.

  2. Hi Brian,

Costa Rica looks amazing! Well, you've hiked up, down and around mountains in Acadia, Maine and all over Oregon, through redwood and fern grove trails in California, and now through rain forests in Costa Rica. That's quite a resume.

I love the posted pictures and I can't wait to see the ones you are taking with your camera. Take lots!

The cuisine is my thing and what I am paying particular attention to in the blog posts and pictures. TRY ALL OF IT!! I am living vicariously through you. Remember what I said about the chocolate. Make sure some of it makes it back to Cincinnati!

I can't wait to hear your report on the horseback ride ... I know how you enjoy horseback riding.

I know that you are having a blast. The time will pass passing quickly, so take the time to appreciate all of it ... even the horses. Experience EVERYTHING!! And, of course, wear your sunscreen, be safe, use bug repellent and obey your teacher, chaperons, hosts, etc. All very important.

We miss you!! Darcy is so tired of the extended comings and goings of her boys. These randomly timed episodes come without much warning apart from the suitcase packing, which she picks up on immediately ... it's confusing for a dog. She will be so excited to see you next Monday night. So will I, obviously ... and Matthew ... no, really he will.

We love you and miss you, Brian!!!

    Love,

    Mom, Matthew and Darcy

  4. Hello All,
Congrats to all who rode the water buffalo. Shouldn't everyone ride one at least once in their life time? Do water buffalos have fleas??? Please tell me no. (And I was worried about the dogs) How about those sloths, Miss Kelly? Where were they last year? Can't wait to hear about any manatees you see. 😜
Jackie and her girls looked so happy with their gifts. Kudos to everyone for their donations and spreading a little joy to such a nice family.

The 8th graders came to 1-D this afternoon to help us make a model of our teeth with marshmallows. They were a huge help- but I know they miss you guys.

Grace, I'm trying not to send too many comments, but it doesn't seem to be working so well. I wish I was there with you. Keep having fun and tell Randy I say hi.
    Love, Mama Suz

  7. Hi Riley and Graceyn!

Well, it's Wednesday and your brother finally admitted he misses you to Andew yesterday on the ride home from school... Adaliene, I'm sorry to say, but Andrew is holding out ;). We all know that deep down in his heart he can't wait to see you! It's foggy, dreary and yucky here. Enjoy that beautiful sunshine! The pictures are truly spectacular! Like Mrs. Doyle says, it looks simply magical. We love you to the moon, the stars and back Smiles and Gracie Lou! Have fun!!!!!

XOXO, mom, dad, Tate and Olive
